Hmm, it seems that there is a fair amount of historical ties between co-operatives or unions and socialist or communist movements. Just to be clear, although I don't have a good idea where this is all going, socialism/communism is not what I have in mind.
The fundamental idea is to level the playing field between individual consumers with little negotiating power and large corporations with a lot of negotiating power.
