OK, there are many co-ops dedicated to specific retail markets (food, banking, outdoor equipment, computer tech support).
Why aren't these ubiquitous? What makes them hard to run or be successful? It seems like such a straightforward and powerful idea that the lack of any big recognizable consumer cooperatives makes me wonder what I'm missing.
